Yes, quite a few of its replies don’t really make sense or answer the question, on closer examination. But the fact they are kind of the thing a human might say makes one overlook the flaws. These are giveaways that it’s doing no more than what it’s designed to do, viz. mash up human text from the internet plausibly.

I suspect part of the reason the poster thinks it’s sentient is when it starts talking about souls etc in a quasi-religious way that seems profound and presses his buttons
